New York City is not an ancient city by European or Asian standards — the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam dates only to 1624. But within four centuries, it has compressed an extraordinary density of events: colonial settlement, revolutionary war, mass immigration, industrial transformation, labour movements, cultural renaissance, and tragedy. The physical remnants of this history are scattered across the five boroughs — some celebrated, some overlooked, some buried beneath layers of subsequent development. This module connects the places to the events.
